The Four Abbeys of the Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders is rich in history and along with the many historic houses and buildings, the region has four magnificent ruined abbeys to explore.
The other three abbeys are located in Dryburgh (6.8miles), Kelso (14.2miles) and Jedburgh (13.2miles). All are within driving distance from Melrose. More information on the abbeys can be found under the tourism section.
Melrose is just over an hour from Edinburgh and can be reached by car using either the A68 which goes through Melrose and Lauder or the A7 through Galashiels and Stow.
If you’re looking to explore the city for a day, watch a show or see the world renowned Edinburgh Military Tattoo then you can get the bus, drive or walk to Tweedbank as it is a short distance. The Borders Waverley train to Edinburgh runs every half hour throughout the day with the last train leaving Edinburgh just before midnight.
